Long-Term Modulation of the Galactic Cosmic-Ray Fluctuation Spectrum

چکیده
We study the temporal behavior of the power spectra for Galactic cosmic-ray fluctuations during the last two solar cycles. We use the 5-min data for 1980–2002 corrected for the barometric effect from two widely separated high-latitude cosmic-ray stations, Tixie Bay and Oulu. The cosmicray fluctuation spectrum is shown to be subjected to a regular long-term modulation with a period of about 11 years in phase with the solar cycle, in accordance with the variations in the inertial part of the turbulence spectrum for the interplanetarymagnetic field. Based on independentmeasurements, we confirm the previously detected cosmic-ray fluctuation power enhancement at the maximum of the 11-year solar cycle and its subsequent decrease at minimum solar activity using new, more extensive data sets. We reach the conclusion about the establishment of a new cosmic-ray modulation phenomenon that has not been described previously in scientific literature. c © 2003 MAIK “Nauka/Interperiodica”.

Prediction of galactic cosmic ray intensity variation for a few (up to 10–12) years ahead on the basis of convection-diffusion and drift model
We determine the dimension of the Heliosphere (modulation region), radial diffusion coefficient and other parameters of convection-diffusion and drift mechanisms of cosmic ray (CR) long-term variation, depending on particle energy, the level of solar activity (SA) and general solar magnetic field. This important information we obtain on the basis of CR and SA data in the past, taking into accou...
متن کاملGalactic modulation of extragalactic cosmic rays: Possible origin of the knee in the cosmic ray spectrum
The existence of the spectral break around ∼ 3 × 10 eV in the cosmic ray spectrum (referred to as the ‘knee’) is one of the biggest questions in cosmic ray astrophysics. At the same time, the origin of cosmic rays above the knee energies (between 10 and 10 eV) is also still unsettled. In this paper, we investigate how the hypothetical extragalactic CRs after modulated by the galactic wind contr...
متن کاملAngular Power Spectrum of the Galactic Synchrotron Radiation
We calculate the angular power spectrum of the galactic synchrotron radiation induced by the small scale fluctuations of the magnetic field and the cosmic ray electron density. Using the observed interstellar magnetic field spectrum, which is consistent with the Komolgorov turbulence model at the relevant scales, we find that Cl ∝ l−3.7. We estimate the cosmic ray electron density fluctuation s...
متن کاملLong-Term Cosmic Ray Modulation by Heliospheric Pa- rameters: Non-linear Relations
The heliospheric modulation strength is a good parameter for the long-term modulation of cosmic rays in the neutron monitor energy range. Here we study an empirical relation between the modulation strength and the global heliospheric parameters: the heliospheric current sheet tilt angle, the open solar magnetic flux and the global IMF polarity. The suggested relation closely reproduces the meas...

One of the main factors for satellite design is simulating of total ionizing dose due to space ionizing rays in devices used in space. By measurement of induced dose based on available data in different altitudes, expenses of designing, satellite weight and amount of needed fuel will be reduced. Optimum design of satellite for protecting satellite against ionizing radiation has considerable eff...
